Recent discussions have seen a narrowing of differences, with a focus on achieving a broader ceasefire and easing regional tensions, according to Iranian officials. Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, noted that the current talks prioritize ending hostilities, with nuclear issues set to be tackled subsequently.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also indicated that there had been advances in diplomatic efforts, suggesting that further developments might soon arise. Washington has consistently asserted that Iran should never acquire nuclear weapons and has insisted on guarantees concerning uranium stockpiles and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
During this period of negotiation, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a warning that any new U.S. attacks would provoke a more robust response from Iran. He also mentioned that Iran has restored parts of its military capabilities after weeks of conflict and a delicate ceasefire.
Pakistan continues to play a mediating role between Tehran and Washington, with its army chief engaging in meetings with Iran’s top leadership in Tehran. These discussions have been described as constructive, aiming to set the stage for another round of direct negotiations.
