In a devastating attack on Kyiv early Monday, Russian missile and drone strikes resulted in the deaths of at least nine people and left 46 others injured, including five children, according to Ukrainian officials. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities anticipate a possible rise in the death toll.
The overnight barrage caused significant damage to residential areas throughout the Ukrainian capital. Emergency services reported that 15 apartment buildings were either damaged or destroyed, notably a nine-story residential building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district. Rescue teams are actively working to extricate individuals trapped beneath the debris.
In addition to the casualties in Kyiv, another fatality was recorded in the Bucha district, located northwest of the capital. Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the attack, describing it as a “massive” operation involving long-range missiles and drones, aimed at military, energy, and airfield infrastructure in Kyiv and other regions across Ukraine.
This assault follows closely on the heels of another major Russian strike that resulted in at least 27 deaths in Kyiv, making it one of the most lethal attacks on the city this year. The recent onslaught underlines the ongoing conflict and the precarious situation faced by civilians in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that battles continue in the strategic town of Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region, dismissing Russian claims that they have captured the town. The ongoing fighting highlights the intense struggle for control in this key area.
