Central to this initiative is a delegation tasked with assessing the current situation and recommending improvements across a variety of sectors, including education, healthcare, and leisure activities. Additionally, the inquiry will focus on smoothing the transition into the workforce for young people with neuropsychiatric conditions. The ultimate goal, as stated by Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed, is to ensure that affected children and young people receive adequate support to achieve their full potential and actively participate in society.
The rise in diagnoses has significantly strained child and adolescent psychiatric services, prompting the government to seek a deeper understanding of this trend. By doing so, they aim to bolster long-term support systems and alleviate the pressures currently facing these services.
Leading the inquiry is Mathias Wahlsten, the Director General of the Swedish Unemployment Insurance Inspectorate. His leadership will guide the delegation as they conduct their examination and formulate their findings. The final report, including recommendations, is expected to be presented by December 1, 2027.
