Qatar has expressed its approval of the recent decisions by the Netherlands and Belgium to prohibit the import of goods from Israeli settlements. According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these bans represent a significant move in addressing the ongoing settlement activities within the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Qatari foreign ministry emphasized that the bans align with international efforts aimed at curbing settlement expansions, which it claims are in violation of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334. The ministry’s statement highlighted the importance of these measures in reinforcing global initiatives to halt such developments.
Further, Qatar voiced its optimism that additional countries would follow the example set by the Netherlands and Belgium. It urged the international community to take up its legal and moral responsibilities by pressuring Israel to cease its settlement activities in the occupied territories.
In reaffirming its commitment to the Palestinian cause, Qatar reiterated its support for a two-state solution. It advocates for this resolution based on the 1967 borders, envisioning East Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent Palestinian state.
