“90% of This Has Been Worked Out”: US Confident in Gaza War Accord

by admin477351

Confidence is growing in Washington that an end to the two-year Gaza war is near, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio declaring, “90 per cent of this has been worked out.” The deal, which has the backing of President Donald Trump, has reportedly been accepted in principle by Hamas, with final logistical talks now underway.
At the heart of the agreement is a plan to secure the release of all Israeli hostages. In exchange, Israel has agreed to move its military forces back to the “yellow line,” a demarcation representing their position in mid-August. This forms the first and most critical phase of the broader peace framework.
Looking beyond the immediate cessation of violence, the plan also includes preliminary steps for Gaza’s future. Rubio mentioned that Hamas has consented “in principle and generalities” to discussions about what happens after the war, a significant move toward establishing a long-term resolution. The details of this post-war structure remain to be negotiated.
President Trump has thrown his full support behind the initiative, branding it a “great deal for Israel.” Simultaneously, he has adopted a hardline stance against Hamas’s leadership, warning of “complete obliteration” if they do not surrender control of Gaza. According to Trump, Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu is also aligned with the US vision.
The final hurdles are logistical. “We are just sort of finalising the logistical piece,” Rubio stated, adding that these technical negotiations will quickly reveal whether Hamas is genuinely committed to the agreement. The outcome of these talks will determine if the long-running conflict can finally be brought to a close.
