Norway has committed $1.2 million to Cambodia’s mine action program for the 2025–2027 period, reinforcing its long-standing partnership in the country’s humanitarian and development efforts. The announcement was made during a meeting between Senior Minister Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), and Norwegian Ambassador Astrid Emilie Helle in Phnom Penh.
Ly Thuch praised Norway for more than three decades of consistent support in mine clearance, data management, capacity building, and victim assistance. He highlighted that Norway’s contributions have played a vital role in clearing tens of thousands of hectares of land from landmines and explosive remnants of war, helping communities reclaim agricultural and residential land.
Ambassador Helle commended Cambodia’s leadership in hosting the 2024 Siem Reap–Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World and reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to supporting Cambodia until it achieves complete mine-free status. She also expressed hope for peace along the Cambodia–Thailand border following recent tensions.
Both officials reaffirmed their shared goal of transforming affected regions into safe, productive, and peaceful areas, with mine action continuing as a cornerstone of Cambodia’s humanitarian and development agenda.
